About 10 years ago, my wife Carly and I were looking around for a good secondary school for our eldest daughter, Emma, who was at a Catholic primary school.

Emma was offered an academic and music scholarship for a prestigious private school. This was appealing but we also had two younger children, and it was unlikely we would be able to afford to send all three to a private school.

At the time, Balwyn High School was looking for high achieving students, so Emma sat for the exam, and fortunately was offered a place. We then found out that the school also offered an extensive music program, which was great for Emma as she plays piano.

Emma is now studying biomedicine at Monash University. We also have Daniel, in Year 11 SEAL, and Emily in Year 9 SEAL. Daniel is considering a career in medicine, and Emily in dentistry.

Our children developed great confidence through the SEAL program and feel respected by the teachers and other students. They are proud of themselves and of their cohorts, who are their friends outside the classroom as well.

The teachers challenge the SEAL students because they know the students enjoy extending themselves. The teachers also stay in close contact with us and let us know if students are feeling out of their depth in particular areas.

If your children want to achieve great results, the SEAL program is an excellent option.
